New In: Dragonskull Catapult Takes Aim

Dragons come in many forms. Some live in books, others in movies, TV shows, and video games. And if you've ever defended a kingdom, stormed a castle, or rescued a princess from the clutches of an evil dragon, you probably know one thing: when it comes to dragons, a sword isn't always enough.

 Sometimes, you need a catapult.

And not just any catapult — a catapult that looks like it's already defeated a dragon or two and proudly displays the trophy to prove it. The Dragonskull Catapult isn’t called that by accident.

The Look: Love at First Sight

There’s a theory that builders come in two types: those who choose their next project for the challenge, and those who fall for a model’s looks first. After creating more than 130 builds (with plenty more on the way), we’ve noticed something interesting: the projects people truly fall in love with are the ones that strike the perfect balance between the two. Our Rescue Firetruck, which we had to restock a record-breaking 11 times in a single year, is proof enough.

And now, meet another strong contender: the Dragonskull Catapult. It combines the mechanics of a real siege engine with a design that’s impossible to walk past without taking a closer look. A giant dragon skull tends to have that effect. 😊 According to the legend behind the model, a brave dragon hunter attached a trophy skull to his trusted catapult and discovered it had gained magical powers. The launching spoon was carved from dragon bones, while years of dragon fire left the wood weathered, cracked, and full of character. Whether you believe the story or not, one thing is certain: the Dragonskull Catapult looks ready for battle — and fortunately, it's on your side.

The Fun Part: Watch It in Action

One reason catapults stuck around for centuries is that the idea behind them is brilliantly simple. Load a projectile into the launching spoon, pull the mechanism back, release it, and watch it fly. The Dragonskull Catapult follows the same principle, combining a four-wheel base, a launching spoon (crafted from dragon bones, of course 😎), and a clever firing mechanism that brings the whole machine to life.

Ready to launch? Pull the spoon down until it locks into place, load a ball, then push the release lever forward. The lever is located on the rear axle near the back wheels, making it easy to operate while keeping your fingers safely out of the launch zone.

Like all WoodTrick models inspired by historical weapons, the Catapult is designed for safe play. Instead of rocks, it launches soft polyurethane balls that are lightweight, durable, and harmless. Eight are included in the kit, so once your catapult is assembled, all that's left to do is load it up and head off on your next dragon-hunting adventure.

The Build: Easy to Enjoy

This model is what we'd call a fun build in the best possible sense. With just 104 precision-cut pieces, it's a relatively quick project by WoodTrick standards. (For comparison, our Terrain Titan packs an impressive 1,715 pieces.) The Catapult also carries a START difficulty rating — 2 out of 5 — so most builders can expect to complete it in about 1–2 hours. That makes it a great choice for DIY newcomers and even first-time builders looking for a project that's engaging without being overwhelming.

And if you're already an experienced builder? Well, can you think of a good reason not to add a dragon-powered catapult to your collection? That's what we thought. Not every project has to be a massive undertaking. Sometimes a quick, creative, personality-packed build is exactly what the workbench needs — and the Dragonskull Catapult delivers all three.

The new 3d wooden constructor from WoodTrick is ready to order.
